Description
View of frescoe of Venus Pompeiana from the House of Venus and the Four Gods in Pompeii, Italy. "Dedications to Venus appear in multiple forms throughout the city. Inscriptions refer to her as Venus Pompeiana, Venus Fisica, and Venus Fisica Pompeiana, and her iconography varies accordingly. When Venus is described in an inscription as Pompeiana, she is presented fully dressed, wearing an elaborate diadem and bearing the symbols of Fortuna, an olive branch and boat oar,"--Goddess of the Garden: Evidence of Everyday Life and Worship in the Gardens of Pompeii, by Kimberly Carver.
