Description

Exterior view of the Ford Bomber Plant in Willow Run, Michigan with bomber plane on left under hangar door. The factory was designed by Detroit architect, Albert Kahn and was dedicated in June, 1941. “Albert Kahn had designed Willow Run to manufacture the B-24 in a straight, mile-long assembly operation, which allowed the fastest, most direct routing of all parts and subassemblies. He designed two 150-foot wide assembly bays with an overhead crane to assist in the movement of large and heavy parts,”—Willow Run: Colossus of American Industry, by Warren Benjamin Kidder, 1995.
