Description

View of reconstructed rooms inside one of the terrace houses at Ephesus, Turkey, with floor mosaics and wall paintings. "While Room 27 itself has almost entirely been destroyed, four different layers of wall painting has been preserved in the corridor. Best preserved is the third layer: it displays a system of open fields and lisenes (vertical, rectangular ornament field) decorated with alternating green and red leaves positioned on a black reference line. Terrace House 2 contains seven luxurious apartments (peristyle houses) on three artificial terraces in the centre of the ancient city of Ephesos. Reflecting the upper class status of their inhabitants the houses were richly furnished. In addition to marble decoration and mosaic floors almost all rooms of Terrace House 2 were decorated with wall paintings,"--Ephesus Foundation website.
