Description
Detail view of Djin block at Petra, Jordan. "The first of the monuments of Petra to be encountered is a group of carved stone 'towers' know variously as 'sahrij' blocks, pylons and Djin blocks ... The name 'djin' is another Arabic word, meaning ghosts, spirits ... Altogether there are approximately twenty-five such monuments in Petra. Their use is still controversial but there is a general opinion that they were tombs"--Petra by Iain Browning, London: Chatto & Windus, 1989.
