Description
View of niches and ceiling inside the Urn Tomb at Petra, Jordan. "The main chamber, on the courtyard level, is a massive single room of approximately 17 metres deep by 18.9 metres wide ... Originally there were four recesses of equal size in the rear wall. When the tomb was converted into a church -- indeed into the cathedral of Petra -- the center two recesses were thrown together to create something approaching an apse,"--Petra by Iain Browning, London: Chatto & Windus, 1989.
