Description
Interior view near the entrance to the Toronto City Hall designed by Viljo Revell and completed in 1965. "Completed in 1965 under the direction of local architects John B. Parkin Associates, Revell's idiosyncratic city hall and generous civic square quickly became symbols for Toronto and introduced to the downtown core the Modernist paradigm of high-rise tower with low podium, open plaza, and vast underground parking garage. Most significantly it helped the public to perceive Modern architecture as a legitimate, even appropriate style for the expression of civic aspirations,"--from Toronto City Hall by Marco Polo from Canadian Architect, March, 1994.
