Description
Detail view of relief sculptures on the Arch of Galerius at Thessaloniki in Greece. "In form and to some extent in decoration echoing a triumphal arch, it features roundels with portrait busts of Galerius and his wife Galeria Valeria, the daughter of his fellow tetrarch, Diocletian. These were help up by Persian prisoners, a reference to Galerius' recent victories in campaigns against Sassanian Persia,"--A Companion to Ancient Macedonia, edited by Joseph Roisman, Ian Worthington.
