Description
Detail view looking up the "golden tower" of the Fisher building in Detroit, MI, designed by Albert Kahn c. 1929. “Besides the twenty-six-story tower, the mixed-use complex includes an eleven-story parking garage and a three-thousand-seat theater. An even grander design for the site included an identical twin at the opposite corner and a massive central skyscraper conceived as more than twice the height of the flanking towers … As in any high Art Deco design, multiple stylistic references are brought together under the watchful eye of a master. Besides the obvious arcades, a ground-level motif much preferred by Kahn, the exterior detailing is indebted especially to Romanesque precedents,”-- AIA Detroit: The American Institute of Architects Guide to Detroit Architecture, by Eric J. Hill and John Gallagher, 2003. Handwritten on back of photograph: Fisher, printed: Hedrich-Blessing Studio, 450 East Ohio Street, Chicago Neg. no. 8661-D.
