Description

View of abstract sculpture by British sculptor, Henry Moore at the Meijer Sculpture Gardens in Grand Rapids, Michigan. "Henry Moore was deeply interested in nature and organic forms, which lead to his pioneering work in abstraction. Although this sculpture is not a literal interpretation of a butterfly, it suggests the general contours, symmetry of wings, and the grace and beauty of their movements. This work is one of the many works from Moore’s mature career which was initially inspired by a small bone the artist discovered on his rural studio grounds. A pedestal-scale sculpture or “working model,” it served as the basis for the colossal-scale work of the same title in Berlin, Germany"--Meijer Sculpture Gardens.
