Description

View of sculpture entitled, "Summer Dance" by Barbara Hepworth at the Meijer Sculpture Gardens in Grand Rapids, Michigan. "Barbara Hepworth was a pioneering figure for abstract sculpture. Her contributions are often viewed in tandem with her nearly exact contemporary Henry Moore, but Hepworth remained steadfast in her commitment to non-representational imagery. Hepworth developed a language based on organic forms whose mass was often opened or pierced to reveal the significance of space and volume. n this sculpture, the two forms differ but share a common bond in mass, space, and color. As a result, the interconnectedness of these non-representational works suggests a relationship as indicated in the title"--Meijer Sculpture Gardens website.
