Description
View of the Agora (market place) at Ephesus, Turkey. "The Agora exhibits a square plan, each side measuring 111 metres. It was first built in the 3rd century B.C. and attained its final form during the reign of Emperor Caracalla (211-217) … During the Roman period the Agoras (forums) occupied an important place in the life of a city. Since they were considered semi-sacred areas, one entered agoras with reverence as though entering a place of worship,"--Ephesus Ruins and Museum by Selahattin Erdemgil, NET Turistik Yayinlar, 1986.
