Description

Interior view of the ceiling of the Urn Tomb at Petra, Jordan. "Its enormous height and deep courtyard give it an air of stately importance which is enhanced by its elevated position ... As with all the carved monuments, it is very difficult to ascribe a date to the Urn Tomb. The Abbe Starcky has suggested that it is the tomb of Malchus II who died in A.D. 70, and stylistically this would seem plausible, for even though there is strong Roman feeling about it it is still essentially Nabatean architecture,"--Petra by Iain Browning, London: Chatto & Windus, 1989.
