Description
Detail view of water channel carved into the canyon wall of the Siq in Petra, Jordan. "A water channel has been cut into the foot of the cliff on the left-hand side and passes directly beneath the base of the abutment of the arch and continues for the whole way through the Siq. The flat, vertical surface of the rock was first cut into and then the base of this excavation was carved to form a neat, wide channel. Its descent is consistent with the fall of the ground as it goes down steeply into the gorge"--Petra by Iaian Browning, London: Chatto & Windus, 1989.
