Description

View of tablinum at Casa della Caccia Antica in Pompeii, Italy with painted wall, columns and pool. "The House of the Ancient Hunt, whose original structure dates from the mid-second century. BC, shows a major construction phase of the first imperial age and retains fresco decorations 'fourth style' just prior to the eruption of 79 AD It has the typical layout of the house 'atrium', built on the axis marked by entrance - hall - tablinum organized lavishly, so that the visitor, just come in, could intuit the social status of the owner. Particularly fine is the pictorial fresco decoration that has been preserved, including that of tablinum, open atrium and garden, with squares of scenes related to the Cretan myth, now on display at the Museum of Naples, on a plinth that imitates marble coverings; and the cubicle open atrium with paintings of Venus Monkfish (on the north wall) and Leda and the Swan (on the south wall). On the bottom of the garden wall depicts a complex hunting scene that gave the house its name. Singular is the outer edge of dell'impluvio tub, to the center of the atrium, made with fragments of mails cutting amphora walls,"--Pompeii, Soprintendenza Pompei website.
