Description
Exterior view of the Arthur Munkwitz duplex apartments in Milwaukee, Wisconsin designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and completed in 1916. “As early as 1911, Wright was designing his American System Ready-Cut structures with “prefabricated” construction integral to their concept. Here, however, prefabrication meant “ready-cut” parts. In 1916, the idea resulted in these buildings for Arthur R. Munkwitz and Arthur L. Richards, who first come together as president and vice-president, respectively, of the American Realty Service Company. Each apartment featured a living room the full width of the front façade. An adjoining dining space overlooked the entry, and the kitchen occupied the balance of the front,”--The Architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright: A Complete Catalog, by William Allin Storrer, Frank Lloyd Wright.
