Description
View of stone steps in the Theatral Area at the Palace of Knossos in Crete. "The Theatral Area consists of two flights of fairly broad steps along the eastern and southern sides of a small open court, with a rectangular stone block in the angle between them. It is set apart from the rest of the palace and has a slightly different orientation. The steps are deep relative to their height and do not really lead anywhere, so Evans idea that it was most likely a set of stands is probably not far off the mark. He reckons that something on the order of 500 people could have been comfortably accommodated,"--Odyssey Adventures in Archaeology website.
