Description
View of columns with closed papyrus capitals in the courtyard of Amenhotep III (Amenophis III), at the Temple of Luxor. "Luxor was an important political and religious center since it was part of the ancient city of Thebes, the capital of Egypt. The Temple of Luxor, located near the banks of the Nile, was dedicated to the veneration of Amon (who was associated with Mut and Khonsu, the Theban triad) ... The Courtyard is about 167 feet wide and 148 feet long. On three sides there is a portico with two rows of columns,"--by Mary Ann Sullivan, Bluffton University.
